Henry Schaffer
Bio
Dr. Henry Schaffer is Professor Emeritus and Coordinator of Special IT Projects and Faculty Collaboration at North Carolina State University, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1966. Over the course of his distinguished career at NC State, he served as Associate Provost for Academic Computing from 1984 to 1993, helping to shape the university’s early computing infrastructure during a pivotal era in academic technology. From 1986 to 1994, Dr. Schaffer also split his time between NC State and SURAnet, contributing to the development of one of the nation’s early regional research networks. His involvement in the intersection of computation and population genetics led to his participation in the founding of GenBank and continues to this day. His decades of service reflect a deep commitment to advancing the intersection of technology and academic life.
