Strategic Priorities

Elevating Research and Computation in Bioinformatics

  • Priority 1: Deepen Computational and Genomic Foundations Let’s work together to develop robust and relevant expertise in bioinformatics, statistical genetics, and genomic data science — advancing biological knowledge through rigorous quantitative methods toward better outcomes in health, agriculture, and evolution.
  • Priority 2: Elevate Research Infrastructure and Support Let’s invest in the people, tools, and computational infrastructure that empower excellence, inclusion, and openness in genomic research, training, and community partnerships — from high-performance computing to reproducible data pipelines.
  • Priority 3: Train the Next Generation of Genomic Scientists Let’s equip students with the rigorous disciplinary depth and broad, adaptable skill set needed to thrive in the 21st-century workforce. Through comprehensive degree programs in bioinformatics and statistical genetics, we will prepare well-rounded scientific leaders ready for the collaborative, interdisciplinary careers that define modern genomic science.
  • Priority 4: Advance Interdisciplinary Collaborations Let’s nurture a culture that values the diverse experiences and perspectives of faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and students — fostering collaborations that bridge biology, statistics, and computation to unlock new frontiers in genomic science.
  • Priority 5: Open Up Genomic Science Let’s empower the Bioinformatics Research Center to become a local and global hub for open science — connecting researchers, clinicians, educators, and communities to genomic discovery and data-driven innovation in meaningful and accessible ways.
